History:

Ted Gildred, an SCCA racer since 1961 and former US Ambassador to Argentina under President Reagan, was touring the Lola factory in 1980 when he noticed this new T70 Mark 3B GT coupe. This Lola, chassis #SL-76-155, was one of five Lola T70 Mark 3B GT coupes built by Lola Cars that were not sold until 1980-1981. Mr. Gildred purchased the Lola directly from the factory and had it exported to his race shop in Southern California. He campaigned the Lola in historic car racing quite successfully from 1981-2002. The car was often raced by his friend, George Follmer, as well as John Morton and Bobby Rahal. The car is well known having competed at many west coast tracks such as Riverside Raceway, Willow Springs, Sears Point and Laguna Seca. This car is documented and recognized by John Starkey, Lola T70 historian and author of the book Lola T70. The Lola Heritage is aware of the car. The file which comes with the car has a variety of original documents between Lola Cars and Mr. Gildred acknowledging his purchase.

Condition:

This is an outstanding original example of a very rare Lola T70 Mark 3B GT still as it was built by Lola Cars, with no known crash damage and has always been expertly maintained. Very low time on the engine since the last rebuild. Excellent paint and panel fit. Detailed notes and log books recording its racing and service history.

Of Note: The 1969 Lola T70 Mark 3B GT was a force in FIA endurance racing in 1969 and 1970. It was the ultimate customer racing car. Although 16, T70 Mark 3B GT were built and sold by Lola Cars in 1969 (#SL-76-138 though #SL-76-153), five legitimate cars were not sold by Lola until 1980-1981 (#SL-76-154 though #SL-76-158). This car SL-76-155 is a one-owner, original Lola T70 Mark 3B GT. It has excellent documentation with records from new and undisputed provenance.
Spares: Numerous transaxle gearsets, electric radiator fans, spare seat and much more.
